‘Save the Video Store’ Immersive ’90s Experience at Marietta through June 12 – CBS Atlanta

MARIETTA, Ga. (CW69 News at 10) – If you’re feeling nostalgic and love this all-time favorite Blockbuster video store, you’ll be thrilled with an experience currently happening in Marietta. Save the Video Store is an immersive experience, where you can play a role in your favorite 90s movie.

When you enter MovieBuster for the Save the Video Store experience, cast members give you a VHS tape to return. You’re then ushered into the 75-minute Blockbuster-style experience, where you’ll interact with characters from famous 90s movies, like the Men in Black.

At the video rewind counter, an employee may abruptly take the tape and inform you, “You haven’t rewound it, and it’s also three days late. You may also find yourself having to save that co-worker from a dinosaur attack before being whisked away for a 90s makeover.

“At the end of the day, you not only have to save the video store, but you have to save yourself and make sure you survive the experience,” said Stephen Beehler, a producer.

We can all thank Captain Marvel for the scene in the movie that inspired it all. “This concept was created by our writer/director Erin Stegeman,” Beehler said. “When Captain Marvel crashed into the Blockbuster video store at the start of the movie, she was like, ‘Wait a second. There’s something we can do with this,'” he said.

Stegeman hooked up with the Into the Film production team, and the rest is history.

“You’ll also play ’90s quizzes, some interesting video-inspired relays,” Beehler said.

Angelique Bates, who starred in Nickelodeon’s “All That,” says she’s looking forward to it. “I’m an 80s baby, so when I saw Blade and The Craft and all that, it just brought me back in memory to my childhood, and that’s positive, like, we need a lot of positivity in the world right now,” she mentioned.

Once it’s all done, you’ll head out to the Sketchy Manager’s Secret Bar for some ’90s-inspired drinks.
