Evina, a French cybersecurity company made the discovery that prompted Google to remove dangerous apps from the Android market.

According to Evina, once one of these apps is installed on an Android device, a hidden code is activated that starts stealing users’ personal data.

It also has the option to display a Facebook login page that looks almost identical to the real thing. But when users enter their username and password, the information is sent directly to the hackers.

Evina’s technical director, Lionel Ferri, said of the cyberattack: “It is a fraudulent technique that signals danger and reflects how important it is to protect yourself. It cannot be identified by Facebook because the malware is displayed in front of the legitimate application when it is launched. ‘
